Duckhorn 2017 NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON Wine & Spirits 94pts
2017 NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON
We have been producing Cabernet Sauvignon since 1978. Blending fruit from estate vineyards and top Napa Valley growers, this wine embodies the complexity of the valley, while offering a seamless balance between fruit, oak and tannins. To add nuance, the Cabernet is blended with Merlot, yielding a wine that is approachable in its youth, yet worthy of cellaring.
VINTAGE NOTES
The 2017 growing season began with abundant winter rains, followed by a warm, dry spring that led to a perfectly timed budbreak. In addition to replenishing the water table, the early season rains produced robust canopies, which provided invaluable shade during a week-long heat event that kicked harvest into gear during the last week of August. This was followed by a much-needed cooldown that allowed the vines to recuperate, while also giving us extra hangtime for flavor development and tannin resolution. We harvested throughout September and into early October, with the grapes showing lovely ripeness and quality, yielding plush, polished and wonderfully complex wines.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Lush, energetic and intense, this gorgeous Cabernet begins with aromas of blackberry, huckleberry and chocolate, as well as hints of mint, cardamom, clove and graham cracker. On the palate it displays lovely brightness, with firm, resolved tannins framing flavors of boysenberry and black currant. As it evolves in the glass, subtle sweet and savory notes are revealed, carrying the wine to a long, focused finish.

Duckhorn 2018 NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY
2018 NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY
At Duckhorn Vineyards, we have been making wine using grapes from the finest Napa Valley vineyards for over 40 years. Building on this rich history, our Napa Valley Chardonnay comes from the coolest regions. In the cellar, we applied classic techniques of French oak barrel fermentation with lees stirring, resulting in a Chardonnay that balances the complexity and richness of Napa Valley.
VINTAGE NOTES
For both red and white grapes, 2018 offered near picture-perfect growing conditions, with mild spring and summer weather, and no significant heat events. The conditions were ideal for both our Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, which show beautiful tropical notes and ripe flavors at low sugars. While our Chardonnay harvest began about three weeks later than normal, the fruit arrived at the winery in pristine condition, producing dynamic and complex wines. The excellent growing conditions naturally resulted in a slightly larger than average crop for our red Bordeaux varieties, with fully lignified seeds at low sugars levels. With temperate weather throughout fall, we were able to pick each block at optimal ripeness, yielding exceptionally juicy and polished red wines, with plush, well-rounded tannins, and lovely overall structure.
WINEMAKING NOTES
Both complex and alluring, this radiant Chardonnay opens up with aromas
of pineapple, stone fruit and lime, as well as hints of white flowers and sweet French oak. On the palate, it is round and silky, with lively acidity and abundant minerality balancing the underlying richness and adding poise to the lush flavors of apple, peach and creamy lemon curd.

Winemaker Notes
A classic expression of Napa Valley Merlot, this wine offers alluring aromas of lush cherry, raspberry, cocoa and freshly baked pie crust. The cherry and raspberry notes are echoed on the silky palate, where fine-grained tannins and flavors of ripe plum, blueberry, licorice and subtle baking spice draw the wine to a long, elegant finish.
Twomey Cellars Russian River Pinot Noir 2018 by SilverOak 92pts Wine Enthusiast
Vintage Description
The 2018 growing season in the Russian River Valley was slow and steady, starting off brisk and relatively dry. This cooler weather pattern led to a long flowering period, but fruit set was not impacted and the resulting yields were higher than typical. The methodical pace of the vintage carried through the summer with moderate temperatures allowing for uniform ripening. Harvest was later than recent vintages, pushing into late September-closer to a more classic seasonal pattern. Both the extra time on the vine and the extended harvest window allowed warmer sites to be picked while still fresh and cooler sites to ripen fully. As a result, our 2018 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir has a wonderfully ripe profile with intensity and a generous structure that is complimented by a backbone of freshness and balance. 2018 was a classic Pinot Noir vintage.
Tasting Notes
- APPEARANCE Ruby
- AROMAS Black cherry, sage, red rose, tobacco

Twomey 2019 Sauvignon Blanc by Silveroak 90pts Wine Enthusiast
Vintage Description
2019 was an excellent growing season for Sauvignon Blanc. A prolonged, wet winter gave the vines plenty of water to develop strong canopies during the spring. The rains gave way to a long summer with warm temperatures—but without extreme heat events. This is the weather we hope for every year in California. A mild end to the summer allowed for slow, even ripening and grapes with an ideal balance of expressive fruit flavors and lively acidity. Harvest began the last week of August in our warmer Calistoga Estate Vineyard and continued through the third week of September, when the coolest blocks of our estate Merino Vineyard finally reached optimum ripeness. The distinct flavors and textures at each of our four Sauvignon Blanc vineyards allow us to create a nuanced and elegant wine that still packs plenty of California sunshine.
Tasting Notes
- APPEARANCE Pale lemon
- AROMAS Grapefruit, lemongrass, orange blossom
- PALATE Driven by citrus, electric and lively acidity
Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 91 pts wine enthusiast
Vintage Description
The 2016 vintage was the beginning of the end of the enduring drought. Ample rainfall in the winter months filled reservoirs and soil profiles and allowed a strong start into the growing season. Warm weather in mid-February led to early budbreak, but we were fortunate not to see any frost damage to the vulnerable shoots in spring. The post-bloom period was consistently warm and steady throughout, and there were only two smaller heat events. A few cool weeks in August followed and brought plenty of coastal fog to protect the developing fruit. We saw steady fruit ripening with aromatic and phenolic development in sync with sugar accumulation. The result was healthy fruit with high flavor and aromatic concentration plus good acidity—the perfect combination for a one-of-a-kind wine.
Blending & Aging
Our 2016 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 94.6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.0% Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc and 0.4% Malbec. In early 2017, the final blend was transferred to American oak barrels from our cooperage, The Oak, where it aged for 24 months. Half the barrels for our 2016 Alexander Valley vintage were new, providing a subtle, layered expression of bay leaf, coconut and vanilla to our wines. Blending before barrel aging—a signature of our winemaking style—allows blends to be based on the inherent qualities of their vineyard components before oak influence. Vintage to vintage, the resulting Cabernets emerge integrated and ready to drink upon release.
